Equipping Group Residency Labs involve five interwoven components. Each is customized to each resident, sending church, and mission field:

    1. Internship: You’re immersed into a local sending church for a ~3-4 hrs/wk, where you learn ministry by doing it, and create a Development Plan around specific areas of growth in your personal/family life, beliefs/convictions, leadership, mission, and ministry.

    2. Assignments: You’ll give ~3-4 hrs/wk of reading, watching, listening, writing, and practice, before and after from each Lab Week. These are exclusive trainings from noted practitioners in each residency’s training area.

    3. Lab Weeks: Every two months, you and your peers gather for 2-3 days, where you discuss prep work, learn and pray together, and hear from experienced trainers on various competencies. You also carry out practical exercises per each class's theme.

    4. Organization focus and assessment: We recognize and appreciate the nuances of different churches/sending organizations. We work with yours to create space for training org-specific values, doctrine, and/or ministry philosophy. And we encourage a formal assessment through your sending organization .

    5. Spouses’ involvement: No one is more impacted by ministry than the pastor’s family. Discernment, Church Planting, & Early Years processes involve spouses to varying degrees. Specific involvement for each residency is described in that residency’s .pdf.

  • The Discernment Residency costs $450/mo over 9 months (Sept - May).

The Church Planting Residency costs $450/mo over 10 months (Aug - May)

Tuition covers online and print materials, administrative and coaching costs, and all Lab Week expenses (incl. food, trainers, activities, etc.). Residents/ churches cover travel costs to Lab Weeks, and any expenses for your local church internship. As part of the training, we encourage you to raise 100% of tuition and costs.

An Equipping Group value is “accessible training.” We aim to offer high-quality training, at a lower cost than you’d find elsewhere — and through our “pay-what-you-can policy,” our hope is to make residencies accessible to quality applicants in any situation. Let’s talk!

  • The reality is that 85%+ of the principles behind discipleship, ministry, and mission translate across denominational, theological, and other lines. The Equipping Group is honored to serve growing ministers and train planters across many organizations.

In the past, The Equipping Group’s leaders have trained residents from organizations across the US like Acts29, Soma/Saturate, Plant Fort Worth, various Baptist and Presbyterian organizations in different states, and independent churches as well.
